Meet Our Team
I have enjoyed a wonderfully fulfilling career as a drama practitioner since 2004 and have had the privilege of extensively leading drama in hundreds of schools from Shetland to Sunderland. I have worked/written for and consulted with many national organisations including Education Scotland, The Scottish Book Trust, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland, Children & Young People’s Commissioner Scotland and The Times Educational Supplement Scotland.
I am an ambassador for nurturing, creative and pupil-led drama and what this approach to drama can build within pupils in terms of self-esteem, self-belief, self-worth, self-confidence and invaluable transferable skills for life, learning and work. Through founding and running Edinburgh based theatre school ‘Love Drama’ for seven years, I saw the evidence for this and learned and studied a young person’s progression both in terms of skills and personal development through regular drama participation. The results were so overwhelmingly positive, I decided to break down the practice and offer this to schools.
From writing down my initial idea for The Drama Box in a notepad in October 2013 to now managing the most dedicated and positive team I could wish for, every minute of creating this company is made worthwhile with each story of pupil, teacher and school transformation through our workshops, courses and resources.
My vision is for The Drama Box to be The World Class Drama Resource and play a major role in preparing our young people for the pace of change ahead in their futures.
Since May 2018, I have worked as the Marketing & Bookings Manager for The Drama
Box and I can honestly say that I’ve LOVED every minute! Throughout school and
University, I have always been passionate about art and love getting creative, so I feel
incredibly lucky to have found a job which allows me to explore my skills to the
My main role consists of building our brand through our social media platforms, as
well as creating engaging and eye-catching content to include in our monthly email
which tells our followers exactly what we’re up to! I also help build and maintain our
customer relationships and ensure the school’s journey runs smoothly, from dealing
with a simple enquiry, to confirming the details and needs of the school, to the point
when our experienced practitioner delivers our services.
I couldn’t ask for a better team to work alongside, and although we all have our own
areas to focus on, we love collaborating together and helping each other when we
can; I feel like I am part of a dream team!
As the Drama Education Manager at The Drama Box I split my time between our office and facilitating workshops and staff training within schools. I joined the team in January 2018, providing my experience and skills to deliver our face to face services and at the end of the summer I was offered an exciting new role working full time. Since then, I have worked alongside the team to create new content for our online platform, helped to design our Drama Progression Framework, created impact reports for organisations we have worked with and researched new and exciting ways to incorporate drama into the national curriculum. I love being part of a dynamic, creative team who strive to encourage individuals within education to use more drama.
As the Sales Consultant for The Drama Box I spend most of my time discussing our services with educators across Scotland. I’ve worked with drama in various capacities for as long as I can remember, and having had it shape my life I am particularly passionate about spreading the word about the benefits drama can have for young people. Fortunately, that’s what I get paid for, and it’s a real privilege to work with a team who share this belief, and a company that has been built upon it. Occasionally I am also referred to as ‘tech guy’ – a term of endearment that represents no contractual responsibility, but offers sporadic problem solving opportunities of an IT nature.
Having worked with various pupils in a variety of alternative school settings, from SEN to multiple time school refusers, I have seen first hand the power of drama and how it can engage and ignite young minds. I am lucky enough to be able to share these experiences with teachers and children across Scotland every time The Drama Box makes a visit! When I’m not out being inspired by the weird and wonderful ideas of our young protégées you can find me in the office with a cuppa, assisting the team and creating new and exciting content for our Drama Progression Framework. When I first stepped onto the stage, aged 7, as a “magical tree” I had no idea my journey would take me here, but I am pleased to say I have kept and grown that magic into some drama skills that are pretty useful for kids growing up in an ever-changing world! I am so happy to be part of a team whose passion for drama and creative learning shines through in everything they do and I can’t wait to share it with you.
